Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai & Keita Kurabe) The story I am going to tell is about the first men to die of snake-bite. Once upon a time, there were three brothers in a village: an eldest brother, a second brother and a third brother. One day, a prisoner came back to his village. On his way, he saw a huge den. He was so scared. At night, he slept at those three brothers' house as a guest. He told them about the snake's den which he saw in the afternoon. When he spoke in fear, the three brothers said, "My friend, just show us where it is." "We will kill it." Then the prisoner said, "No!" "Even its den is huge," "then the snake will be very big." When he spoke in fear, the brothers persuaded him to take them there. Then they showed their abilities. The youngest brother put a bunch of bamboos and said, "See how powerful we are." "See how capable we are." He cut the bamboo into pieces, one stride long each. The second brother cut the bamboo even shorter than his brother. He cut the bamboo into the length of a palm. The eldest brother cut the bamboo much smaller. He cut it into the length of a finger. After showing their abilities, they said, "See! We've got this kind of ability." "We can kill the snake easily." They insisted on letting them know where the den was. They asked so much that the prisoner told them where the den was. They saw the den and stood beside it. They wainted for the snake to come out. After a long time, a huge, shiny black snake came out of the den. Then the eldest brother, the strongest one, was the first to cut at it with his sword. It was really hard to strike the snake as it was tough. Then the second brother cut it by his sword, followed by the youngest brother. But there weren't any wounds on the snake no matter how many times they struck. They could not even wound it. The snake wrapped the loops around the three brothers and took them into its den. Since then, the snake started to kill the people. Transcription (Lu Hkawng) Ya hkai na maumwi gaw "Lapu e shawng kawa sat hpang lam" nga ai maumwi re.
