| Description: | Translation (Htoi Awng & Keita Kurabe) Now I am going to talk about the proverb "He who slept on the precipice found the level road." Once upon a time, there was a man who was very lazy and addicted to opium. He was very lazy. So lazy that none of his parents or relatives liked him. Because they didn't like him one day, they gave him food and other provisions for the journey, and kicked him out of the house. They left him in a cave. When he arrived at the cave the sun went down that night. He stayed in the cave. He slept in the cave. When he slept in the cave because he was an opium addict he spent his time smoking opium and drinking tea. Then a gnome, the owner of the cave, came to him. She came to him. She saw the man cooking opium and drinking tea and eating charcoal. When she saw this What did she say? "Hey, you fire-eating man, get out of my place." "Get out of my place." "Go home." Then the lazy man said, "No, I'm not leaving." "What will you give me?" Then the gnome said, "All right, I'll give you anything." "Get out of here, you fire-eating man." But the man said, "I'm not leaving." "I won't leave if you don't give me anything." The gnome said, "I will give you, I will give you." She stuffed a golden basket full of gold coins and gave him her mule to carry him. She let him go home. So the man rode the mule back to his home village. He sold the gold coins given by the gnome. His parents welcomed him back. They lived happily ever after. This is why the people of old had a saying "He who slept on the precipice found the level road." (i.e., He who took risks and was nearly ruined is now doing well.) Thank you very much. Transcription (Htu Bu) Ya hkai dan na maumwi gaw "N-gam Galeng Ai Wa A Numda Hkrup Ai Lam" re.
