Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story about the Mali Hka River is told in different versions. Everyone tells different stories. This is what I have heard before. One river flowed down from Majoi Shingra Mountain, and another from Hkyeng Mountain. Two rivers flowed down. They talked to each other. One river said, "I will flow from the west." Then the other river said, "I will flow from the east." They asked, "Who will lead us?" One of the rivers said, "I will flow from the east. Who will lead me?" Then a fast hamadryad snake said, "I will! I will lead the river that will flow from the east." That's why the river from the east flowed very fast, following its leader, the snake. The river from the west was led by a python. The python said, "I will lead that river." As the python moved slowly and gently, the river also flowed gently. The river that flowed gently from the west was the Mali Hka River. It still flows very gently today. The river from the east flowed very fast because it was led by the hamadryad. It was the Nmai Hka River. This is what I have heard about the Nmai Hka and the Mali Hka Rivers. Transcription (La Ring) Mali hka a lam, mali hka a lam gaw amyu myu hkai ma ai.
