Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story I am going to tell is about a wild man and a trader. In the past, there were only double-hulled sailing canoes. Many people were riding that kind of canoe and went somewhere. They were traders. They were going somewhere to sell their goods. Unfortunately, a storm hit them in the middle of the sea. The canoe was sunk, and many people on the canoe were dying. One man on the canoe was alive. He put all of his efforts into swimming. Then, he could reach an island. He was perplexed. He didn't know where he was. The hunger hit him. So, he searched for some fruits to fill his stomach. Then, he stayed on the island for a few days. While he was wandering there, he found a grandfather sitting on a rock. He thought, "I can make friends with him." He was so happy and talked to the grandpa. He called, "Grandpa." But he found that the grandpa was not a human. That old man had a human body with lots of hair. He was just a wild man. The grandpa waved at him and rode on his shoulders. He couldn't speak and showed where he wanted to go by pointing. The grandpa made the man sleep in the cave. He stayed with him together. If he couldn't go where he wanted, he choked the man with his legs. One day, while they were walking near the shore, the trader thought, "The grandpa might want to take a rest here." So, he tried to put him down. But the wild grandpa didn't climb down from his shoulders. That wild old man was happy because he could order the trader what to do. It was already two or three days that he bullied him. Then, the man got angry and thought to himself, "I need to do everything to escape from this wild man. Shall I just kill him?" When the man tried to put him down, the wild old man tried to choke him as well. The trader thought, "It's not good for me. This crazy wild man might kill me." So, he used all of his strength and shook him off from his body. And he said to the wild man, "I'm exhausted. Let's take a rest here." The wild grandfather thought real and fell asleep. While the grandpa was sleeping deeply, he took the rock and hit the grandpa's head. He killed him and ran to the shore quickly. Luckily, he saw a group of travellers with a boat near the shore. So, he swam there and went back to his home. Transcription (Lu Awng) Ya ngai hkai na maumwi a gabaw gaw hpaga la langai hte ja chawoi a lam re.
