Description: | Translation (Htoi Awng) In the past, there was no king who would rule people. There was a country with a crowd population in the past. And there were many wild animals near that country. People were afraid of the danger of those wild animals. The most dangerous animal was the wild bear. They were the most dangerous and scariest animals for people. So, people announced, "We will enthrone a man who can kill our most dangerous enemy." There was a man who was talented in archery. He had a wife and a daughter. He taught how to shoot the arrows to his daughter. She was a talented archer too. The talented archer went to the jungle and killed the bear successfully. The country was more pleasant and safer than in the past. People crowned him as their king. He became the king. As his daughter grew up day by day, her interest in archery was growing up too. She often went to the jungle to practice her skill with her horse. The queen was a very polite woman. They wanted their daughter to act like a princess. But, their daughter did not want to stay like a princess. The queen often taught her daughter to stay like a princess. One day, the king and the queen announced, "The princess has grown up, and it is time for her to choose her destiny. Talented people can come to the palace and compete in the competition." They made their daughter wear like a princess. On the designated day, they were waiting for the guests. A lot of men came there to join the election. They showed their abilities and skills. A man said, "I am the strongest man alive. I can bend the iron easily." He showed his amazing skill. Another man claimed, "I am the fastest man in the world." He also showed his ability. Everyone showed their abilities as well. But, the princess did not want to choose anyone. No one could impress her. So, the king said, "My daughter doesn't like anyone. So, I couldn't help." Then, people argued and claimed that it was not fair. The queen was upset about it. The queen told them not to argue. Then, the queen said, "My daughter will have to choose a man to be her consort." Then, the princess was sad to hear what her mother said. She was mad at her and thought, "What should I do to escape from this situation?" She decided to go out of the palace. There was a picture of her family on a wall. It was drawn by using thread. She took it and went out of the palace secretly. She went into the jungle. There, she could see the light in front of her. In fact, nat spirits showed her the way. When she followed the light, she met a deity. The deity asked her, "Hey, girl! Where did you come from? Where do you want to go?" The princess answered, "I ran away because I want to change my mother's mind." Then, the deity gave her the snacks to feed her mother. The princess took the snacks and went back to the palace. When she got back, she hid them somewhere in her chamber. As there were many maids in the castle, they stole and ate the snacks. But the princess did not know about that and fed the queen. After eating the snacks, the queen had turned into the wild bear. The maids also turned into bears. Since her father became the king by killing bears, he would kill the queen without knowing that she was his wife. So, the princess took her mother into the jungle. Her mother couldn't speak like a human anymore. She was very upset because she didn't mean to hurt her mother. She just wanted to change her mind. She fed her mother the food that the bear ate. But her mother did not want to eat those. She caught some fish in the streams to feed her mother. But her mother did not eat those too. So, she grilled the fish and gave her mom. Then, her mother ate the grilled fish. The mother asked more and more. She could not grill anymore, so she took her mother to the stream. She let her mother caught the fish by herself. When the mother ate raw fish, she found them tasty. Then the mother bear was getting wild too. She even tried to attack her daughter. So, the daughter was very sad and searched for an idea of how to turn her mother into a human again. Then, she went back to the deity. She begged her, "Please, change my mother back into a human." The deity said, "I can't give that kind of snack which can turn your mother back into a human again. Sew the picture of your mother, which you tore, back to your family picture. When it is attached well, your mom can be a human again." Meanwhile, it was chaos in the palace. Since the queen and the princess went missing, the king blamed the guards. Men who joined the competition were getting angry. So, the king was holding a meeting with them where to find the princess. At that time, the princess entered the palace and tiptoed towards the picture. Then, the king saw her. The king was delighted. The king thought to continue the competition. But they were disappointed. Suddenly, a man from the crowd saw the bear hiding behind the princess. He looked shocked and pointed at her. Then, the king saw the bear too. The king had killed many bears. So, he immediately ordered his guards to kill the wild bear. The princess begged the king not to order his servants to kill that bear. She explained that it was her mother. But, the king refused her request and ordered them to kill it. Then, the princess quickly ran to the picture and sewed the picture. After that, she took it and followed the bear by horse. She reached near the guards. They were attacking the bear. They chased the bear with the dogs. The bear was exhausted, so she could not run faster. At that time, the guards caught her. They tied her with ropes. When the princess saw that, she ran towards her mother. Suddenly, a tiger appeared and attacked her. The mother bear saw that the tiger was about to bite her daughter. She worried about her. So she destroyed all the ropes and ran to save the princess. The bear and the tiger were fighting against each other. The bear protected the princess. When the king and the guards saw that thing, they wondered why the bear saved the princess. After fighting for long hours, the bear could beat the tiger. Then, the princess quickly ran towards the bear and put the picture on the bear's body. She apologized to her mother while crying, "Mom, I'm so sorry. Please, forgive me. Turn into a human again. If you can't be a human again, what should I do? I can't forgive myself." At that moment, the bear turned into a human because of the picture made of fabric covering her body. All the servants who turned into the bears became humans again. The princess was glad. The king was pleased too when he saw his wife. Finally, they spent the rest of their lives peacefully and happily in the palace.
