Description: Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Once upon a time, there was a man in a village. He was a hunter. He used to hunt for about two months to three months. But this time, he took about six months because he lost his way back home. It was getting dark. So, he decided to find his way back home the next morning. He had to sleep somewhere in a forest. He thought, "If I sleep on the ground, the wild animals will attack and kill me. I should sleep on the tree." At midnight, he felt that a hairy hand touched him. He thought it was a caterpillar. When he turned his head to look at it, he saw a nat spirit looking at him and laughing. The nat spirit (Hpulum Htu) had a big mouth, big eyes and long breasts. She was waving and calling him. The man was terrified. He thought, "The demon will kill me." He went closer to her although he was scared. But the demon said to him, "Can you be my husband?" The man didn't dare to say no because he needed to save his life. So, he decided to stay with her. After three years, they had two children. After the next three years, their children could walk and run. It was already six years he lived with Hpulum Htu. Then, he knew all the way to escape and everything about the forest. Hpulum Htu didn't watch him all the time too. She always went out in the morning to find food and came back in the late evening. Whenever he tried to run away from her, she caught him. One day, he saw a big lake somewhere in the forest. He told Hpulum Htu (an evil nat), "I want to eat fish from that deep lake." Then, his wife (Hpulum Htu) said, "I am afraid to go into the deep lake." He told her, "Then, I will go there and catch some fish if you are afraid." The next day, he went to the lake. He pretended like he was swimming and fishing. He kept doing like that in front of Hpulum Htu. She thought he was just catching some fish. After a few minutes, he reached another side of the lake. He even waved at her and ran away. Hpulum Htu was very upset. So, she killed the children who she got with him. After that event, the man gave up his job as a hunter. He never went hunting again because he was afraid to meet Hpulum Htu accidentally. Transcription (Lu Awng) Moi shawng de da mare langai kaw la langai mi nga ai da.
