Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Once upon a time, there were two villages. The villagers from the two villages were united. They helped each other for almost twenty years. As time passed by, they got many animals. But their animals were mysteriously missing. So, they suspected each other. A conflict grew between the two villages. They accused each other. They thought, "People from that village steal our animals." They fought each other because of that problem. They were no more united. Lots of weeds and grass grew on the way between the two villages. The villagers from the two villages did not contact each other for about ten years. One day, an older man was looking after his ten cows. There, he saw a giant snake coiling. The snake was as huge as a house. He was shocked. He left his cows there and ran quickly to call the villagers to kill the giant snake. When he arrived at the village, men were going to their work, and there were only women in the village. So, he considered taking his cows back. When he went back to the place where he left his cows, the cows were surprisingly missing. He searched for them the whole day, but he couldn't find them. He knew that the giant snake killed all his cows. He told about the snake to the villagers. When the villagers heard about the snake, they knew that why their animals were missing. So, they went to tell about it to the villagers from another village. But, their neighbour village thought that they were coming to argue with them again. So, they did not have any conversations with them. One day, a girl from the neighbour village went to find food for the pigs in the jungle. That giant snake swallowed her. Even after several days, she didn't come back. A man from her village went into the jungle to save her. But he was swallowed by the giant snake too. A young boy from the older man's village said, "Grandpa, I will go there to save her." The old man said, "It's impossible! How could a young man like you save the girl from the snake!? Even the strong man could not save Her. How could you?" The boy claimed, "I can. I will definitely save her." Then, the grandpa said, "Okay. Go there." He took a cross-bow and a dagger and went into the jungle. He searched for the snake the whole day, but he could not find it anywhere. It was getting dark, so he thought to go back home. On his way, he sat beside the huge rock to take a rest. He didn't know that it was the giant snake. When he touched it, he felt something slippery. He realized that it was the snake, not the rock. The snake was hypnotizing him while he was standing. Then, it swallowed him. When he was inside the snake's belly, he saw a girl was crying and groaning there. She was yelling to save her. Then, the boy knew that he was in the snake's belly. They didn't die because the snake quickly swallowed them. He realized, "This girl must be the girl from our neighbour whom the snake swallowed. I should save her." He was finding a way to escape and told her not to worry. Then, he told her, "Here is a knife. Stab the snake's belly above your head with all of your strength. I will shoot the arrows towards its stomach." They stabbed it and shot the arrows as much as they could. Then, its belly was torn off, and the snake's faeces covered all over their bodies. Then, everything was dark. The girl said, "Did we arrive at the place where there is no sun?" The boy said, "No way. Let's cut it more." Meanwhile, the snake thought that the cows which it swallowed were moving inside its stomach. Then, the boy said, "The snake is not dead yet. We have to cut it hard so that we can escape."The whole night, they cut the snake. In the early morning, they could penetrate only a small hole. Through that hole, they saw the light from outside. The boy said, "We can escape soon. Let's cut it quickly. The snake will wake up soon. Then, it will crush us and kill us." They cut the snake quickly and could get out of its belly. The next morning, the snake was dead too. The boy sent the girl back to her village. The villagers were very happy. The chiefs from the two villages discussed, "We lost our unity because of the snake. Let's stay united and build the friendship in the future." The girl's father was very thankful to the boy since he saved his daughter's life. The girl's parents gave their permission and arranged their daughter and the boy's marriage well.
