Description: | Translation (Rita Seng Mai) It was during the animism period. There was a man called Hkangma Naw. He was a shaman. He was an expert in rituals and often made offerings to the spirits. Some people held ceremonies to worship the spirits, offering more if the spirits wanted it. There was a Lahtaw family in that village. Their son was seriously ill and died. It was their only son. There was no one left in their family to carry on the Lahtaw name. They went to the shaman and said, "Hold a ritual and offer some offerings to the spirits, please. Save my child. If my son is brought back to life, we will give you whatever you ask." When the shaman did the divination, it was actually the result of black witchcraft. The shaman asked for a gong that was 10 hand-spans wide. He said, "If your son is alive, you must give the gong that was 10 hand-spanned big." And he cured the child's illness. As a result, the boy fully recovered from illness. When the shaman asked them to give him the gong, they always said, "We will give it to you next year." The following year, they said, "Another year." Three years later, the shaman fell ill. However, the Lahtaw family didn't give him the gong yet. He was touching his beard and deep in thought. As the Lahtaw family took time to give him the gong, he said, "People do not keep their promise. Now, I can't live here anymore. I will have to go back to the place where I come." He told his family members, Even after I die, no matter how many years pass, keep asking the Lahtaw family to give us the gong." However, they never gave the shaman, Hkangma Naw, the gong, even after he died. Transcription (Lu Awng) Moi da ndai nat jawng prat hta rai na hku nga hkan ma naw ngu nga ai da.
