Description: | Translation (Rita Seng Mai) In the past, there was a family whose clan was Lakum. They had many children. The family members had died year after year. Then, only the mother and Ma Hka, the seventh son, were left. They were poor. No one wanted to help them. When the son grew up, he wanted to get married. But they didn't have money to give as bridewealth. One day, the mother and her son went to their field. Meanwhile, someone cooked meals for them and did the household chores while they were away. When they came back, they were surprised. They couldn't figure out who did those chores for them. Many years had passed. Then, they thought, "What shall we do? Shall we catch that person secretly? We should do something." One day, they pretended to go to the field and tried to catch that person. They saw that a beautiful girl was doing the chores for them. The mother told her son, "Let's see where she is hiding. When she tries to hide, let's catch her." After she had prepared everything, she hid inside the rice pot. Then, the mother and her son quickly went out from where they were hiding and caught her. The girl couldn't hide anymore and said, "I am not a human. I am a fairy. Since you catch me, I can't go back to my house anymore. I have to live here. I will go back this time because I need to inform my family about it." After one year, she came back to the boy. She also brought a knife. And she gave it to her husband and said, "Don't aim at anyone with this knife." The knife was really powerful. When he cleaned the field with that knife, the work was done in a short time. Later, they had a child. They had eight children in total. Many years later, they had grandchildren too. One day, they were drying rice grains under the sun. The birds were trying to eat the rice grains. At that time, the man forgot what his wife said and aimed at the birds with that knife to scare the birds away. Then, his wife suddenly disappeared. Since then, Lakum clan has appeared. They are called Lakum.
