Description: | Translation (Htoi Awng) The story is about how a crab (Mam Magum) became. Once upon a time, there were a mother and a daughter in a village. The daughter's name is Hkawn Ji. The mother loved her daughter so much. She always walked her daughter to school and sent a lunchbox everyday. Her daughter was in Grade 2. One day, it was raining heavily. So, she brought a bamboo hat for her daughter and went to her school. The daughter's friends saw her and said, "Your mother is very ugly. She is like a devil. We are so scared." But her daughter understood her so much. She didn't have a father since she was so young. At that time, there was a fire burning their house. Hkawn Ji was inside the house. Her mother went into the fire to save her. At that moment, a big bar fell right onto her mother. So, her mother had got a big scar on her face. Although she cured her wound, the scar didn't disappear. She loved her mother so much and understood her mom's feeling. But her friends said, "Don't let your mother come to school!" So, Hkawn Ji said to her mom, "Mom, don't come to my school next time." Her mother was upset after hearing what she said. The mother went to the stream and sat beside it sadly. And she looked at her face reflecting on the water. She was crying there alone and said, "I don't want to live on this earth anymore. Even my daughter doesn't like me." Very soon, there was a heavy rain, and whirlpool. She felt dizzy. Then, she was dead. She became a kind of crab called Mam Magum which hid its face because it felt embarrassed. Mam Magum is a kind of crab which lives in stream and usually hides its face. Transcription (Lu Awng) Maumwi a gabaw gaw mam magum tai mat ai a lam re.
