Description: | Translation (Htoi San) I am telling a story about two brothers. A long time ago, a king had two sons in a large village. The elder brother was not mature and had an envious mind. One day, one brother said to another, "Shall we go for a day out in our village?" They walked to a pretty far place. The younger brother said, "Ah Ba, I am getting tired. Shall we rest for a while?" The elder brother replied, "If you don't want to follow, don't come after. One should do one's job." Then he passed through his younger brother. The younger brother went after slowly with all his strength. Then they reached a wide river. The elder one could cross it without any issues, as he was tall. The younger one was slightly shorter, so he could walk just over the water level, and he felt scared. Thus he asked his brother, "Ah Ba, please hold me and bring me with you." The elder one replied, "One should do one's job. One does what he likes." Then he left his brother and crossed it ahead. The younger brother tried all his might to cross that river as his brother left him, and he could pass it. When they reached another village, they took shelter at an older man's house. That old person was a village elder, and he welcomed them, "Come to my house. Mr. Boss." Then he continued, "Mr. Boss, welcome to our house. Who is that young man coming with you?" The older brother answered, "He is my runner." "He is my maid who serves me." The older man thought, "Whatever it takes, I will get my daughter married to this boss." Afterward, the older man let his daughter sit together and asked the elder brother to marry her. His daughter was pretty, so the older brother fell in love with her. "I will get married to her." The elder brother told the father, and they tied the knot. After they married, the younger brother went to the kitchen and asked the cook lady. "I am amazed that my sister-in-law is such a beauty, and why did she not get married before?" ""The men from our whole village are afraid of her as she is fierce and has a sharp mouth. So no one likes her, and she is left alone," answered the cook lady. Then he entered the room to tell this to his brother, but his brother scolded him, "Don't talk about that. There is nothing you can say about this. You do your job. You do whatever you need to do." Thus, the younger brother was fed up, "If you think so, let it be." The younger brother had no chance to talk more, so he came out of the room. The next day after the wedding, the older brother ordered the younger brother, "I am going back to our palace. Carry those bags and your sister-in-law's belongings." The younger one replied, "One should do one's job." The fierce woman who was from his elder brother behind commanded him, "Carry my things faster. Do it faster." Even the elder brother was very proud but could not say anything with his face down and carried the things and left. The younger brother married the lady cook, who was so mature and lived in that house forever. Transcription (La Ring) E kahpu kanau yan lahkawng a lam bai tsun na re.
