Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) A long time ago, there was a rich family in a village. The man broke chairs and doors after he got drunk. Then, he was getting poor day by day. He couldn't believe himself and thought, "I am getting poor day by day. I will see a fortune teller." The fortune teller said, "Since you destroy the things and kick the furniture in your house, the properties and luck will not be in your house. So, you are getting poor." Then, the man asked, "What should I do?" The fortune teller told him, "Pay obeisance to rice before you eat. And if you are going to drink water, pay obeisance to water three times. When you are opening the door, pay obeisance three times too. Then, you will be rich again." When he went back home, he followed all the things that the fortune teller said. In that way, he got rich again. Suddenly, a horn had grown in his house. A Chinese man noticed that the man became rich gradually, so he bought a house beside his house. And he lived there. In fact, he was jealous and wanted to be rich like him. The Chinese man told him, "Your house is just a hut, but mine is new and good. Shall we change our houses?" The man agreed to change the house, but his wife disagreed. His wife told him, "My husband, we have just gained our properties back. It's impossible for us to change our house with his." He said, "I can't change my words again. I already made a promise to him." Then, he brought all of his properties and moved to the Chinese man's house. Then, the wife took just a tower and left the house. When she walked out of their house, she said, "The nat who watches this house, I no longer live here anymore. I will live in any place where this tower places. No matter where it is, I will live at the place where this tower lies." And she left the house. When she threw it onto the new house's roof, it was not placed. It fell all the time. She kept throwing it one house after another. Then, she arrived on the outskirts. The tower was placed in a flat position when she threw it onto a poor orphan's hut. So, she walked into that house. The orphan boy was surprised when she came in. Then, he said, "A beautiful rich lady is coming into my poor house. I don't have anything to treat you." She said, "It's okay. GOD will give us some food to eat." She slept there peacefully. The next morning, she gave a jade ring to the boy and said, "Go buy some rice." He traded the jade ring with only some bamboo and a pack of rice. But the rich lady wasn't angry at all. She just thought, "It's alright. He doesn't know much yet." The next day, she told him, "Go to the rich man, who lives in the centre of the village, and give this ring to him." Then, he went there to give him the ring. The rich man gave him lots of clothes, money, jewellery and pairs of cattle. Then, the orphan boy was really shocked. He was thinking, "The rich man doesn't say anything to me when I gave him the ring. Now, he is preparing everything by himself." Soon, the rich man called him and said, "Sit here." He took him to his poor house. The orphan boy understood, "This green stone is really expensive." Then, he told the rich man, "I use this kind of green stone when I sharpen my knife." Seem like the boy was sharpening his knife that was used in cutting the wood. He showed the stone to the rich man. Then, the rich man asked him, "Where did you get this stone?" He answered, "There are lots of green stones over the place where I usually cut the trees." The rich man said, "Let's go there." They saw a heap of jade after crossing some small streams. The rich man thought to himself, "Half of these jades are mine, and another half is for the orphan boy and the lady." After taking all those jades, they went back. But there was no bridge to cross the water now. The rich man immediately knew that he was not worth the jade. Then, he left the boy and the rich lady there and went back to the place where the jades were. He said, "I don't deserve any jades. All are for the boy and the rich lady." After that, he retraced his steps to them and saw the bridge. The rich lady and the orphan boy got rich by selling the jade. While they got rich, the rich lady's husband got poor. Then, he came to that house and asked for some money. But she gave him just half of the towel that she took when she left the house. Then, the husband knew that she was his wife. He was so embarrassed and died. This is the end of the story. Transcription (La Ring) Moi kalang mi hta mare langai mi hta e lu su sahte ai htinggaw mi nga ai da.
