Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story is about a dog and a cat which stole gold. Once upon a time, there were an orphan boy and his grandmother in a village. They had a dog and a cat in their home. One fine day, the grandmother said to the cat and the dog, "You are just a waste! We have to feed you two all the time. But we are so poor. Go and steal the gold bullion from the rich!" When she ordered them, they really went there. As soon as they arrived there, the dog ate leftover and took a nap at the threshold. But the cat was thinking of an idea how to steal the gold from the rich's house. He knew where the gold safe was. He kept walking back and forth. But he couldn't find a way to steal gold bars. At night, there came out an old rat. The cat said, "Hey! Bite that gold box and make a hole! If not, I will eat you!" Then, the rat really bit the box and made a hole. So, the cat could take the bullion out. He successfully took the gold out. The next morning, he said, "Hey! Mr. Dog, let's go back! I could take the gold bullion out." The dog said to the cat, "Okay. Since you could take the gold out successfully, let me carry it." On their way back home, when they walked past a village, they saw that people were holding the ceremony of worshipping Nat spirits. The bones and meat were thrown there. The dog said, "I am hungry. Let's ask for some food." Since the cat was hungry too, the cat said, "Okay then! Take good care of this gold bar." The dog put the bullion beside the place where the leftover was thrown. And then, he went to eat the bones. The cat was going inside the house too. People were feeding good food to the cat. While they were finding food to eat, a crow took that bullion. And it put that gold bar in its mouth and sat on the branch of the tree. When the dog and the cat came back, they couldn't find the bullion and lost it. The cat was in a fix. He kept thinking about how to do to get the gold bar back. He told the dog, "You! Pretend like you are dead near the leftover." Then, he put the bones near the dog and hid behind the thicket. There were many flies near the dog. The crow thought the dog was dead when it saw many flies. Then it flew down to the dog. At that time, the cat quickly pounced on the crow and attacked it. And then, he took out the gold bar inside the crow's stomach. They continued their way back home. Then, they had to cross the river on the way home. The dog said that he would carry the bullion this time too. When he looked at the surface of the water, he saw his image. But he didn't know that was him. He thought, "A dog in the water wants to steal the gold from me." Then he opened his mouth to take the gold bar from the water. When he opened his mouth, he dropped the gold bar into the water. The big fish took that gold bar. Then, the cat was depressed again. He thought, "Ohh, we lost the gold again!" He was unhappy. The cat told the cat, "Look where the fish is! Where did it take the gold?" The dog also looked carefully where the fish went in. The cat was in a fix again. Then he went up to the upstream area. He saw a seal in a cave there. He caught that seal and told her, "If you don't take the fish out from there, I will kill your baby." The seal was afraid of the cat that if the cat might kill her baby. So, she asked, "Where is the fish?" Then, the dog showed where the fish was. The seal took the fish out from the water. The cat and the dog killed the fish and took the gold bar out. When they got home, the grandmother asked them, 'Why are you so late? What were you doing?" They replied to her, "Oh, we've faced many difficulties to get this gold. We barely got it back because it was stolen by the crow on our way. And then, we dropped this into the water when we crossed the river. The fish took this gold. And we hardly got this bullion back." Then, the grandmother said, "The dog is not reliable, so you live outside. Don't stay inside! The cat is reliable, so you can eat food inside the house." Since then, the cat was fed inside the house, and the dog had to stay outside the house. The grandmother and her orphan grandson became rich after selling that gold bar. This is the end.
