Description: Translation (Rita Seng Mai) This is about a fox and an egret. Once upon a time, there was an arrogant fox. The fox was arrogant, rude and bad-mannered. While searching for his food, he saw a big piece of meat on the way. He was cramming the meat down. Then, a bone was stuck in his throat. He felt really hurt and was screeching loudly. He thought to ask for help from anyone he saw on the way. So, he was screeching all the way. In the end, he met an egret. 'Nam hka u' is also called as 'mali ta u' in Kachin. That egret is not the kind of egret that we usually see in the countryside. That is the egret that lives in the forest. The egret is big and has a sharp beak. The fox told the egret, "I am in trouble. The bone has been stuck in my throat while eating the meat." The egret asked him, "If I could take that bone out from your throat, what will you give me? Will you give me a gift?" The fox promised, "Of course I will." The egret said, "Okay. Open your mouth widely." And she tried to pick the bone from the fox's throat with her sharp beak. As the bone was sticking deep in the throat, even the egret's head was also in the fox's mouth. Soon, she could take the bone out. The fox felt much better after the bone was taken out. Then, the egret told him, "Now, I have pulled out the bone that hurt you. You promised to give me the gift. What will you give me now?" The fox asked her, "What are you going to ask me as a gift?" She said, "You told me that you would give me the gift." Then, the fox started saying, "Just now, you put your head in my mouth. I could eat you at that time, but I didn't. I didn't eat you. I let you live. That is my gift for you." The egret thought for a while and agreed with what the fox said. She thought, "What he said is right. The fox is the kind of animal that never lets his prey escape. But he didn't bite me." And she just accepted it as a gift.
