Description:Translation (Dau Hkawng) Now I'm going to tell it, "About a worthy and unworthy pot of gold." Long ago, There was a farmer who worked in the paddy fields. The farmer who worked in that field, He was poor but very pure in heart. But, he was one of the needy. One day, from his field, It is too late to go back home. It was getting late, but he returned home because of the inevitable situation. On the way back, when he saw somewhere in the distance, There was shining something brightly. There was something very bright there, and he wanted to go and see. He wanted to know what was shining, but it was too late and it was challenging to go. It was very difficult to cross the jungle to get there. With that, he did not dare to go and see. Err! "Early in the morning, I would go through the jungle and see what was shining there." He had no greed and no desire and just wanted to know what was shining there. And he went back home as he thought by himself, "I would find out tomorrow." He also had a neighbour friend who came to visit him. That person always came to him. And also, that friend was very greedy. The farmer did not know he was a greedy person. Then, the farmer pondered by himself, "He is my friend who always comes to me, so it would not be wrong for me to tell him about it." So, he told him about a shiny thing that he saw on the way back. "On the way home, I saw something bright." said the farmer to his friend. When the farmer's friend heard this, he became greedy. "In any case, this shining object cannot be shining for nothing. If not gold, then jade." the farmer's friend thought by himself. "It must have been something precious gold, so, I have to tell him to go and dig," the farmer's friend thought by himself in his mind. "Let's go and dig together tonight! You and I are not going to dig tonight, but tomorrow the other people will dig and find out what it is," the greedy man said to the farmer. So, the farmer said, "We would not go because it is too dark tonight." "And also, I'm too tired," he continued. Finally, the farmer said to his friend, "If so, let's go and see," because the greedy man kept asking him to go and dig that night. They went to the bright spot and found a pot of gold. The pot was full of gold and jewels. There was also jewellery made of jade. They both opened it together, and one of the men said, "We found this pot of gold together, so let's take it home and share it equally tomorrow because it is too late tonight." The other one also agreed that it was all right. So, they returned home and kept the pot of gold at home. The host said to the greedy man, "I have to go to bed first because I was too tired today." "You go to sleep too. Let's share it tomorrow," the host continued. Then, he fell asleep. When the host fell asleep, his greedy friend wanted to take the pot of gold alone and run away. With that, he quietly approached the pot of gold. And he was looking at the pot of gold. Then, he put his hand into the pot to get precious jewelry, but it was full of water. He decided to take a break for a while. After he took a break, "I will try again," he said it himself, and he put his hand into the pot again. Once again, it was just water. Then, he considered by himself. The greedy man thought by himself, "Aw! This host has been cheating on me for the precious things, must be hidden by him somewhere," and he was looking for it. He was looking everywhere. Again, he took a break when he could not find anything. After lying down for a while, he looked back to see if the gold was back. Again, it was not gold. It was just water again. Then, the greedy man became roused to anger and poured water out of the pot. He poured all the water out there. Soon, after he poured water out, the dawn came. So, he thought by himself, "The host would be upset if he found out what I had done." Then, he got out of bed and went back home. Meanwhile, the host got out of bed and looked at his friend's bed, He was very surprised that he could not find his guest friend. He was amazed and when he looked at the other side of the place, lots of gold and jade jewellery were scattered there. Then, he collected precious gold and jade jewellery, “Where did my friend go? I will find him” said himself, and he was looking for his friend. He found his friend near the edge of the village on his way home. Then, he called his friend as soon as he saw him. He called to share the gold, but his friend thought by himself, "My friend was angry that I had spilled water from his pot in his house and was about to do something to me." He thought so and ran away. And so, the greedy friend returned without getting any gold, jade, and precious jewellery. That the pot of gold was just for those who deserving and pure in heart would deserve it. Only a pure-hearted host earned a pot of gold. His greedy friend did not receive anything because of his greed and what he did. Likewise, that is why only a pure heart deserves anything, but it is a story that turns into the water for a greedy person with a wicked heart.
