Description: | Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story I am going to tell is about a prince who didn't speak since he was born. Once upon a time, there was a prince in a country. He didn't speak at all since he was born. He didn't smile a bit too. His parents believed that he would speak one day. They also took him to the medico and cured him. But the baby prince didn't speak at all. Then, the king's counsellors suggested the king, "The prince does not speak at all. It's not because of his genes. So, we think we should do something for him to speak." Then, the king announced, "If someone can make my son speak a word, I will give half of my country and let him marry my daughter." Many people from different countries came there and did their best to make the prince speak. But the prince didn't speak a word. The king felt depressed and didn't know what to do. One day, a boy came to the palace and shot the bird down, which used to rest near the palace. Meanwhile, the king and the prince were looking outside through the window. They saw that the boy had shot the bird down. The king thought, "Who can make my son speak and laugh?" The boy was plucking the bird's feathers off and just threw them in front of the palace. And he prepared to cook it. Then, he started to build a cooking tripod to cook the bird. But he put only two sides of sticks to make a fireplace. And he put the pan on it. Since he used only two sticks to build a fireplace, his pan was always dropped. It repeated again and again. And it was getting dark. Then, the prince who was looking at that boy from the palace was impatient. The prince thought, "How come he doesn't know how to build a fireplace!?" It was dark, but the boy couldn't cook the bird yet. The prince was impatient and walked up to the boy. And he shouted, "Idiot! If you put only two sticks to build a fireplace, it is impossible to put your pan on it! Don't you know that?" The king saw everything. The prince told the boy while laughing, "You are such an idiot." The king witnessed everything and felt pleased. He thought, "My son speaks finally. He smiles too. As I promise, I will give half of my country to that boy and let him marry my daughter." The king called the boy and gave him half of the country. And he threw a wedding for the boy and his daughter. Since then, the prince spoke and smiled a lot. Transcription (La Ring) E ya ngai tsun na ga baw gaw shangai ai kaw na ga nshaga ai hkaw hkam kasha langai na lam rai nga ai.
