Description: | Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story is about 'a stupid and naughty brother'. Once in a village, there were a father and his two sons. They were so poor that they had only one blanket. They were farmers. They were united and worked together. One day, their father was seriously ill. Since they were boys, they didn't know how to care for their father. Then, their father was dead. After their father had died, they discussed what to do in the future. The elder brother said, "We have only one house, one cow and one blanket. What shall we do with those things?" The younger brother said, "I will follow you. I will do as you said, my brother." The elder brother said, "Okay. You said that you would follow me and would do what I said. Then, I will tell you what to do." He continued, "You use this blanket during daytime." His brother agreed, "Okay." And he said, "My younger brother, you will get the head part of this cow and I will take the body part." The younger brother said, "Okay. I agree with you." The next day, the elder brother said, "Since you have the right to use the blanket during the daytime, take it with you. And you own the head of the cow. So, you need to feed it too." Then, the younger brother wore the blanket and fed the cow every day. He had been doing it for a long time. He didn't know that his brother was using him. He just trusted his brother and did whatever he said. The next morning, the elder brother milked the cow and drank it. He didn't share with to his younger brother. After a few months, the younger brother thought, "Why does my brother treat me like that? I feel really cold at night, but I don't have any blanket to cover me up. I don't really need the blanket during the daytime." One day, he made the blanket wet when he fed the cow. At night, he gave that blanket to his elder brother. But his brother couldn't use it since it was wet. The next morning, the elder brother milked the cow to drink. At that moment, the younger brother hit the cow's head. Then, the cow was scared and ran away. So, the elder brother didn't get any milk. He was angry and shouted at his younger brother, "You did it on purpose! You know that I was going to milk it. So, you intentionally hit the cow's head." The younger brother said, "My elder brother, the head part of the cow is mine. I can do anything I want. It's you who gave me the cow's head." At that time, the elder brother regretted and reflected on himself, "Oh, I did bad things to my brother. I was wrong. I always drink the milk alone. I am just a bad brother." The next day, the elder brother said, "My younger brother, let's use this blanket together. Let's feed and take care of this cow together too. And we will live happily together." Since the younger brother was a clever boy, he could show him what the right thing was. We shouldn't be narrow-minded and shouldn't treat badly to our brothers and sisters. This is the end of the story. Transcription (La Ring) E myit nsu ai kahpu e ya ngai hkai na maumwi gaw myit nsu ai kahpu a lam rai nga ai.
