Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Once upon a time, there lived a grandmother and her grandson in a village. The villagers didn't care about them and tried to bully them because they were helpless and poor. The boy couldn't eat delicious food or have enough money, so he was pitiful. One day, the villagers saw a dragon egg near the river. They didn't know what kind of egg it was. They took it home and steamed it with a rice steamer basket. Oh, I am sorry. Before that happened, there was a lake near the orphan boy's village. There were two dragons in that lake. Since it was a small lake, it was small for two dragons. They were talking, "It is really small and narrow for us." The younger dragon said, "My brother, find a new place for you to live. I will live here." Then, the elder dragon said, "No, you find it for you." One day, the younger dragon said to her brother, "I will find a new, big place for me." The elder dragon said, "Okay, go and find it. If you can, I will never cover myself and will not show my body forever." Then, the younger one said, "Okay, don't show yourself if I can find a bigger place." One day, the younger dragon laid an egg beside the lake near the orphan boy and his grandmother's village. The villagers saw that egg, but they didn't know what kind of egg it was. They took it home and steamed it under the wooden basket. It had increased a lot, so it was not fit under that basket. Then, they took some and put them in another basket. The amount of the egg was increasing more and more. The villagers had to steam the egg by using nine baskets. Then, it stopped increasing. The villagers shared each steamed egg with each neighbouring village. But the villagers didn't give any to the orphan boy and his grandmother. The orphan boy really wanted to taste it. So, he picked up the leaves that the egg was put on and licked them. Then, the dragon remembered all people who ate her egg. At night, there was a landslide. There were land slidings in those nine villages. At that time, the village where the orphan boy and his grandmother lived was suffering the land sliding too. They were shocked and frightened. So, they tried to run away. The grandmother was very old, but she used her bamboo walking stick. She carried her orphan boy on her back and ran away from the village. The landslide was happening right after her when she was moving one step forward. It was like the landslide was chasing her. She quickly ran away while carrying her grandson. But the landslide was happening quickly. In the end, she couldn't run anymore and stopped. She scaredly picked up her walking stick. It was upside-down. She was trying to run away again. But she was too exhausted. She accidentally dropped her grandson onto the ground. She put her walking stick into the soil upright and said, "Don't follow me anymore! I can't run." Her grandson was killed because of the landslide. She said, "Don't follow me!" The landslide stopped after her grandson was fallen onto the ground and was killed. The bamboo walking stick she put upside-down was growing upside-down at that place. The bamboos were growing upside-down near In Daw Gyi lake. The landslide killed the orphan boy because he licked the steamed dragon egg on the banana leaves. So, he died. Then, the lake was wide and big since it had the area of the whole nine villages. The younger dragon told her elder brother, "My brother, I have got a bigger and wider lake than yours." Since the elder brother once said that he would not show his body if his sister got a bigger place than his place. There are two lakes in In Daw village. The lake the two dragons lived in at first was the small In Daw lake. The lake the younger dragon lives in is the big In Daw lake. The younger dragon moved to a big lake while the elder dragon was still living in the small lake. There are many water hyacinth pond plants in the small lake where the elder dragon lives. Since he told his sister that he would not show his body, there are many water plants in his lake. The In Daw Gyi lake, where the younger dragon lives, is very clean. This story is about how In Daw Lay (a small lake) and In Daw Gyi (a big lake) were formed. Transcription (La Ring) Moi shawng de da jahkrai ma hte shan woi dwi nga ai da.
