Description: | Translation (Htoi Awng) The story is about two sisters. The younger sister was rich, but the elder sister was poor. There were many lice on the younger sister's head. Then she said to her elder sister, "If you could kill a mother louse from my head, I will give you a sack of rice." So, the elder sister searched for the lice. She could see them, but she couldn't catch them. She said, "I can't find!" But the younger sister kept telling her to find. So, she combed her younger's sister hair. Then, a mother louse fell off her head. But, she didn't want to give rice to her elder sister. Then, the elder sister and her children didn't have anything to cook that evening. So, she brought a basket and a knife and went into the forest. There, she saw many juicy fruits bearing on a tree. She picked some fruits. Then, there was a python coiling up on the tree. She caught the snake and put it in her basket. Then, she went back home. That night, she cooked that snake and fed her children. They ate the meat happily. Surprisingly, the leftover meat turned into gold and the faeces of her children became gold too. The elder sister was surprised. She collected all the gold and sold them. She was rich. On the other hand, the younger sister became poorer day after day. So, she asked her elder sister, "How did you become rich?" Then, the elder sister said, "It's because you didn't want to give me rice. At that time, we didn't have anything to eat. So, I went into the forest and I could catch a python. We killed it and ate it. Then, the meat turned into gold, and I sold them. I got lots of money because of that." After hearing what her elder sister said, she thought, "I will do the same as my sister." Then, she went to the forest and caught a python alive. But she put the snake and her daughter in a room together. She thought, "My elder sister killed the snake and got lots of gold. I will not kill it! Then, I will get much more money." At night, the snake was hungry. It started swallowing the girl's legs. The girl said, "Mom, the snake is swallowing my legs." Then, she said, "It's okay. It's just smelling you." The snake continued swallowing the girl. The girl said, "Mom, it's swallowing my waist." But she said, "It's okay. Don't worry." The girl said again, "Mom, it's my shoulders now!" She said, "It's fine, my daughter." She didn't check her daughter's situation. A few minutes later, the girl said, "Mom, it's swallowed my head!" Then, the mother was shocked and went inside the room. But, her daughter was already dead. She said to herself, "My elder killed a snake and got much money. But, I didn't get any and even lost my daughter! She is jealous of me. So, she didn't tell me the method!" Actually, she was too greedy and couldn't see what was good or bad. She even lost her daughter because of her greed. Transcription (Lu Awng) Makaw yen malu a lam.
