Description: | Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story I'm going to tell you is about a man who was looking for a grim reaper. Once upon a time, there was a poor man in a village. He was so poor that he didn't have anything to eat. He didn't have any money to invest or do business. He was depressed. Then he thought, "Maybe I am useless to live in this world. It's a waste to live. I should just die. Yes, I want to die. I should find a grim reaper to take my life." He started looking for the grim reaper. He left his village to find the grim reaper. He asked everyone he met on his way if they knew the grim reaper. He kept asking everyone, "Have you seen the grim reaper?" They said, "No." He didn't give up and kept searching for him. At one place, he met the grim reaper. The grim reaper asked him, "What are you doing there?" He answered, "I am penniless. I also don't have any money to invest or do business, although I want to be rich like the others. I just chose to die. So I am looking for the grim reaper." The grim reaper told him, "Young man, you can't die if it is not the time for you, even if you want to. Just live your life. I will teach you a mantra. You can wish for anything you want by using it. Live your life." He said, "Okay, I will." And the grim reaper told him the mantra. He told him, "Just wish only three wishes." The man memorized the mantra and went back to his village. He really wanted to be rich, so he wished to be wealthy. And he wished to own a big house and some servants. His wishes came true. He really became rich and owned a big house and servants. He lived his life happily. Days flew by fast. The grim reaper told him before, "When it is time for you to die, you have to." He also gave him the date when his life would be taken. The man was happy, living his life wealthily. The day he had to die was getting closer. He thought, "I don't want to die when I am living my life best. It's getting closer." Then he called his servants and told them, "The day I have to die is getting near, but I don't want to die yet. I need to hide so as not to be found by the grim reaper when he comes for me. Collect as much food as you can. Put me into a big box with rations and throw me into the sea." His servants made a big box. They did as he ordered. He told them, "When the grim reaper comes for me, tell him that I'm gone. After that day, come and save me. Tie a rope to the box." His servants threw the box, which he was inside, into the sea. And they tied a rope to it. They tied the other side of the rope to a tree. Then the due date arrived. On that day, the grim reaper thought, "Where is that poor man who wanted to die? Today is the day he has to die. Why didn't he come to me yet?" Then he started searching for the man. He couldn't find him, although he searched for him everywhere. Then he knew, "This man wanted to die when he had nothing. He doesn't want to die anymore since he has so much money." He was angry and tired. So he went to the shore and walked on it. Then he tripped over the rope, which was tied to the box. He was already tired, so he was a bit angry. He thought, "Who tied the rope here? Who tied the rope on the beach?" He pulled and pulled it, but it was really long. He kept pulling it. It turned out that the other side of the rope was in the sea. As he pulled it hard, the box appeared. He wondered what kind of box that was since it was thrown into the deep sea. Then he hit it hard to open it. Inside the box was the man who wanted to die in the past. The grim reaper asked him, "Why are you there? What are you doing inside the box in the deep sea?" He said, "I wanted to die in the past, but I don't want to die now because I have enough money. Don't take my life. I want to live happily in this world. Please, don't take my life." The grim reaper said, "No! You can't live in this world anymore. It's time for you to die. I have to take your life no matter what." Then the man died. Therefore, no one should say, "I am poor. I don't have any money. I want to die. Take my life." If it is not your time to die, you can't die yet. Even if you are poor or find it difficult to make a living, you can't die unless it is your time to die. When it is time, you have to die, even if you still want to be alive and live happily. You can die while you are sleeping, too. It happens because it is your time. That's why we have to live happily while we are alive. We should live our lives by doing good things. Everyone can die at an unexpected time. We shouldn't act like that man who was running away from the grim reaper. No one is immortal. We shouldn't wish to die before it is the right time for us. We can't run away from death. I tell you this story to remind everyone not to act like that man. Transcription (Lu Awng) Ya tsun na lam gaw si du hpe tam ai la a lam hpe tsun dan na hku re.
