Description: | Translation (Seng Pan) This story is about a lion and a girl. A long time ago, a girl went to a forest to collect some firewood with her friends. As the group of girls collected the firewood, they were separated before they noticed. So, the girl called their friends loud but nobody replied. However, she kept searching for the firewood and collect them. After a while, a lion came near her by crouching. The girl was so scared. In those days, humans could communicate with animals and trees. The lion said, "Don't be afraid! Just do your work. I won't harm you." So, the girl also felt relief and continued collecting firewood. After that, she went back home. The next day, she went to the forest again. But she didn't call her friends that time. She went alone. From that day on, she went to the forest to collect the firewood every day. The lion and the girl became close friends. Soon, they fell in love. When the girl came to the forest, the lion fetched her and guarded her the whole day while she was working. When the girl went back home after collecting firewood, the lion followed her to the entrance of the village. When they arrived at the entrance, the girl said goodbye and went back to her house. However, after the girl had left, the lion stole and ate the cow around the entrance of the village. At first, the villagers didn't notice it. After a few days, the girl went to the forest again. After the girl arrived home, another cow was stolen again. And the goats were eaten as well. However, the villagers didn't know it. Before the girl and loin fell in love, the girl came back home twice or thrice by carrying firewood. But those days, she went to the forest and spent there the whole day. Only before sunset, she got back home. At that time, the lion also came along with her. The villagers noticed the girl. So, one day, they waited for what would happen when the girl came back home. In the evening, they saw that a lion followed after the girl. At night, a pig and a goat were stolen. The next day, the elders of the village held a meeting. They also called the girl's parents and said, "Something is wrong with your daughter. She is in love with a wild animal, a lion. Your daughter needs to go and bring the lion to the village." As the elders said, the girl went to the forest and told the lion to go back to the village with her. Since the lion loved her, he agreed and went to the village with her. When he arrived at the village, he was detained by many villagers. And they tied him to a pole. The villagers said, "Lion. Since you stole and ate many cows and goats, we are going to extract your teeth." The lion begged, "Please take out only two!" He felt so hurt and cried aloud. Since extracting teeth was painful, he bent his head down. However, the villagers extracted all his teeth. The girl also couldn't do anything for him. Finally, the lion lost all his teeth and died there. Transcription (Lu Awng) Moi shawng de da hkanghkyi langai hte numsha 1 na lam re ya tsun na gaw.
