Description: | Translation (Gun Mai) Long long ago in a village, there was a man who was very dishonest and always lied to others. One day, the dishonest man met with an honest man and said that "Friend, let's go to do trading," and they went to trade. When they were going to trade, the dishonest man was just talking that people should dishonest and lie to others so that people could make money a lot. So, the honest man said to the dishonest man that "Friend, it is not good to be dishonest, to do fraud, and to lie to others. Even if we earn money with dishonesty, it is not useful." Thus, they had a disagreement. One said that earning money with honesty was just good, while the other one said that it was just good to earn money with dishonesty. They had an argument and the honest man said that "Friend, OK. You said you can earn a lot with dishonesty. If you win, you can detach my eyes. And, I said to earn with honesty and if I win, I will detach you eyes." The dishonest man said that "OK." Then, they said that "Let's go fishing today." The dishonest used a hook to do fishing and he got the fish. Then, the dishonest man said to the honest man that "You said to be honesty/straight (honesty also means straight in Jinghpaw language) and now use with a straight hook." So, the honest men could not catch the fish and lost the dishonest man. So, the dishonest man said that "Honest man, you lost me. Thus, I will detach your eyes," and the dishonest man detached the eyes of the honest man. And, the honest man was hung in a big trunk and the dishonest man returned. The two men went to trade but they had the disagreement so the dishonest man detached the eyes of the honest man and returned home. At that time, in the land of the sky, the chief nat called Mahtum Mahta who was god felt hot his ears. So, when he looked at the world, he saw that the honest man lost to the dishonest man and his eyes were detached and hang in the trunk. So, he ordered his man that "Go to the world and ask the man why his eyes were detached his eyes." The men of the Mahtum Mahta went to the world as a tiger and threatened the honest man. So, the honest man said that "Hi tiger, eat me. I am in trouble as my eyes were detached because I said to be honest but I lost my friend. It is useless to continue to live. Please eat me, tiger." Mahtum Mahta asked his man that "What did he tell you?" The man answered that "He said that he is an honest man and travelled together with a dishonest man and the dishonest man won him. So, the dishonest man detached his eyes and he is in trouble now. It is useless to live now for him and tell me to eat him." Mahtum Mahta noted about it. Mahtum Mahta asked his man to go again as a nat. And, the nat threatened the honest man. The honest man said that "Please just kill me and take me. I am in trouble because I am an honest man and my eyes were detached. The nat returned and Mahtum Mahta asked that "What did he tell you?" The man reported that "He said that he is in trouble because he is an honest man and his eyes were detached. He just says to kill him." Then, Mahtum Mahta said that "If so, go again to him and change new eyes. Also, give him a gold jar and a silver jar." So, the man of Mahtum Mahta went to the honest man and said that "Here gold jar and silver jar. Take it because you are honest." The man of Mahtum Mahta also made good eyes for the honest man. So, the honest man returned home with good eyes and also brought the gold jar and silver jar. When he got home, the dishonest man who detached his eyes saw him. The dishonest man also saw the honest man brought the gold jar and silver jar. So, he asked that "How did you get it?" The honest man answered that "You detached my eyes but you also detached my one eye. That's why I only got each gold and silver jar. If you detached two eyes, I might get four gold and silver jars." The honest man also lied a little bit to the dishonest man. So, the dishonest man said that "Friend, please detach my eyes and hand me in the trunk. I also want to get the gold and silver jars." "Ah... I don't dare to do. You can ask your wife to detach your eyes and I will help to hand in the trunk," the honest man said. So, the honest man asked his wife to detached his eyes and asked the honest man to hang in the trunk. Because the dishonest man was hung, Mahtum Mahta felt hot his ears again so he asked his man to go and look again. The man of Mahtum Mahta went to the dishonest man as a tiger and threatened him. Then, the dishonest man angrily said that "Tiger, if my eyes were good now, I will shoot you and kill you." The man of Mahtum Mahta went again to the dishonest man as a nat and threatened. The dishonest man angrily said again that "If my eyes were good, I will shoot you and kill you." The dishonest man just said arrogantly. So, Mahtum Mahta asked his man that "What did he tell you?" The man reported that "He is a bad guy. When I went to him as a tiger, he said that he will shoot and kill me if his eyes were good. When I went to him as a nat, he said the same thing." Mahtum Mahta said that "So, it is a bad guy. Just leave him." Even after six and seven days that the dishonest man was hung, no one gave him anything and only his wife just came to feed him. Even the eyes of the dishonest were getting rotten. So, his wife said that "Husband, I think you might not get the jars anymore. Let's go home." So, the man was brought home and just lived as a blind man. The story is ended here. It meant that the bad man tried to get like the honest man got but he did not get it because he was a bad guy. He was not given a silver jar and a gold jar and his eyes were also not changed because he was a bad guy. So, he lived the rest of his life as a blind man.
