Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) First, I would like to tell a story which is about we should not be lazy. In Kachin culture, parents-in-law went to observe their daughter-in-law before getting married to their son. Long time ago, a mother-in-law to be went to the house where there were two daughters to observe them. She went there to see and observe which one daughter-in-law to be was hardworking. When she arrived there, they were plucking the grass. The younger daughter plucked the grass nicely. The elder daughter was doing messily. Then, the mother-in-law to be thought, "I will just let my son marry to the younger daughter." And she took the younger daughter home. The elder daughter said, "Take me to your home. Let me marry to your son, please." She said, "No, you didn't even know how to pluck the grass. I can't let my son marry to you." Then, she just took the younger daughter to her home. So, the elder daughter was so sad. She said to her father and uncles, "That woman disgraces me!" So, that mother-in-law to be apologized the elder daughter and gave lots of money and gold to make her feel pleased. That's why there is a culture called 'Shing tawt ja'. (Shing tawt ja means giving some gold or money to the single elder sisters if a younger sister is going to marry.) No matter boy or girl, people will not like you if you are lazy. The employer also wants to give much money to the one who is not lazy and works hard. The employers don't let the hardworking person go. Being lazy can cause huge damage to our future no matter how young or old we are.
