Description: | Translation (Gun Mai) Long long ago, there was a king and he was getting extremely sick. Because the king was terribly sick, the girl who cooked and took care of the king treated the king with all kinds of treatment. But, the king did not recover from his sickness. So the girl was thinking that why the king could not recover even though he treated with various drugs. At that time, the girl was suggested by a person from the villager. But, the girl hesitated to tell the king about the suggestion because the king could be mad if he heard the suggestion. The person who suggested the girl said that "Collect the chaff powder that you get at the corner of the bamboo homemade round plate when you clear the rice and feed it the king." So, the girl knew that the king could be cured if the king ate the chaff powder but if she told the king, the king could be angry that "You asked me to eat the chaff powder!" and she could be killed. But, as the girl had no other option, she put a little bit of chaff powder in the food and gave the king to eat without the king noticed. After several days the girl fed the food that mixed with the chaff powder, the king ate the food day by day and he was recovered from sickness. So, the king asked the girl that "Why did I recover from the sickness? What did you feed me to recover?" The girl then whispered to the king that "I collected the chaff powder and then cooked and fed you." Thus, the king said to the girl that "Don't tell anyone about this. Let no one knows about it. If you tell others about this, I will kill you because the people will tell me that I am the king who eats the chaff powder." The king tried to cover it. But, the girl truly wanted to tell about it. She even could not resist anymore without tell about it. So, when she went to collect the firewoods, in the jungle, the girl softly told in a hole of a tree that "The king eats the chaff powder." Later, in the country, the people were planning to do Manau dance event and were ordered to make a long drum that we Jinghpaw people used to play. Because the people were ordered to make a long drum, a tree with a hole in the center was needed to make a long drum. So, the tree that the girl told about the king was cut to use a long drum for the manau dance. Then, after they all finished the long drum and it was ready to do the manau event. So, to start the manau dance, when the people started play the long drum, the sound of 'the king eats the chaff powder' voice out. Therefore, the meaning of the story is that people should not tell anywhere what they are prohibited to tell. It is better not to tell anything that needs to cover. Even though the girl was asked not to tell about the king but she told the tree with a hold in the center and when the tree was useful and was played, it spoke, "The king eats the chaff powder." Although it said not to tell anyone about the king, it appeared in the event. The story is ended here. Transcription (La Ring) Moi hkaw hkam langai wa gaw grai machyi sawng wa ai da.
