Description: | Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story is about clever and smart women. Once upon a time, there lived a married couple in a village. The husband was lazy. He didn't know how to work and didn't want to work too. But his wife didn't nag him or didn't talk ill about her husband. She didn't want others saw her husband as a lazy person. One day, the wife went to the forest to pick some banana leaves. On her way, a bear attacked her. But she wasn't scared. She quickly covered the bear with her basket and killed it with her knife. That bear was cruel and often attacked people. The villagers didn't dare to kill it. But the woman was brave and killed it. The villagers asked her, "Who killed that cruel bear? Your husband?" But she didn't say anything. She cut the bear meat and told her husband to sell it in the village. Her husband didn't want to carry it because it was heavy. But he had to go sell it. On his way, the meat was hooked at a branch of a tree. Then, he said, "Do you want it?" And he gave some to that tree. He gave some meat to every tree. Then, the meat was lighter to be carried. The villagers asked the wife again, "Every villager is scared to kill it. Who killed that fierce bear!? We should do something for the person who killed the bear." Then, the wife said, "My husband killed it." The villagers threw a party for him. At that time, there was a fierce tiger near their village. The villagers told him, "You even killed the bear. Can you kill that tiger too?" He was depressed. He told his wife about that. His wife encouraged him, "Don't worry. I will help you." Then, he told the villagers that he would kill the tiger. The next day, his wife prepared to catch the tiger. She prepared a bundle of bamboos and made a place that she could sit in. She let her husband sit inside the bamboos. And she made sharp bamboo splits too. At night, the tiger came towards the bundle of bamboos since he got the smell of humans. But the man was inside it. So, the tiger couldn't catch him. Then, he tried to catch the man with his tail. At that time, the man tightly tied the tiger's tail with the bamboo splits. The tiger couldn't move at all. The wife killed the tiger. Her husband got famous again. The villagers praised him a lot. Later, his news was spread throughout the whole country. The villagers said, "He is the bravest man. He killed a cruel bear and a fierce tiger." People from one village were in danger because their enemies came to attack them soon. So, they called the man to help them. But the man was scared and didn't want to accept their request. His wife said to him, "Don't worry about it. I will help you. Tell them that you will help them." There was a big shady tree on the way to their village. Everyone rested there. His wife said to him, "Just go there and sit at the top of the tree." The villagers gave him a sharp sword too. Then, he took the sword and sat atop a tall tree as his wife said. Soon, the enemies were marching to attack them. They took a rest under that tree. The man was frightened. He was depressed, "How to kill all of them? I think I was wrong to accept the villagers' request." He fell from the tree because he was scared out of his wits. Luckily, he fell right onto the horse. Then, the horse was shocked and ran quickly around the people. He was dragged and almost fell off the horse. But the enemies didn't think like that. They were shocked and said, "This man is a really brave man. He is planning to kill us while riding close to the horse's belly. He is protecting himself too." They ran away. He was famous and became rich because of his wife. A couple is a match made by GOD. Although the husband is not very smart, brave or hardworking, the wife has to lead them well and make them good and skilful people who can stand bravely in front of other people.
