Description: | Translation (Htoi Awng) The story is about a lord and his servant. The lord set one rule in his village. People who worked for him couldn't get angry. If he got angry at someone, he would be a slave. If his servants got angry, they would be slaves at his house forever. Then, Nangbya, one of his workers, agreed to follow the lord's rule. Nangbya said, "I will work for you. I will never get angry. You can't get angry as well, my lord." And he did the actions that could make the lord mad. The lord ordered him, "Feed the pigs." Nangbya said, "I don't know how to make food for pigs. How to cut these banana trunks?" The lord showed him how to cut, "Cut like this." Nangbya said, "I don't know yet. Can you show me again?" The lord had to show him again. Then, it was enough food for pigs. The lord got really angry, but he didn't show his anger. He said to Nangbya, "You don't know anything to do! Look after the cows." Nangbya killed some cows and ate them behind the back of his lord. And he asked the lord, "My lord, don't you get angry?" The lord said, "No, I don't." In fact, he was really mad at him. One day, the lord discussed with his wife, "We shouldn't hire him anymore. I will be a servant if I get angry at him. Let's leave him here. Prepare some rations for us and bring the horses. Let's run away from here." The lord's wife prepared dried meat and other rations. But, Nangbya knew their plan. In the middle of the night, while everyone was sleeping, Nangbya took every dried meat out of the bag. And he sat inside it. At dawn, the lord woke his family up and said, "We should hurry before Nangbya wakes up." And he put the sack where Nangbya was inside on the horse. After riding for some hours, the lord said, "He can't follow us now." At that time, Nangbya came out of the bag while eating dried meat. The lord family was shocked to see him. He asked them, "My lord, are you angry?" The lord lost his composure, but he said, "No, I'm not angry." The lord ordered Nangbya, "I am touring the land I rule. So, go and tell the villagers that I will arrive there soon." When he reached the villages, he told the villagers, "The lord will come here. But he doesn't eat meat. Just prepare roselle leaves and nen dawng leaves (a kind of sour, slimy leaf) for him. And he said that you had to prepare meat curry for me." When the lord toured the villages, every village prepared roselle leaves and nen dawng leaves for him. Then, he had a constant urge to poop. But he was afraid to go to the toilet because there were many tigers near the village. Nangbya didn't say anything and just watched the lord. Then, the lord pooped in his bottle gourd. The lord thought to clean that bottle gourd early in the morning before other people got up. At dawn, he woke up secretly and went to the river to clean it. At that time, Nangbya woke up and played the gong. And he shouted, "People from this village don't know to bring some water for the king. Now, the lord has to go to the river to wash his face. What are you doing, the villagers?" Everyone in the village got up because of the gong. They were afraid and quickly followed the lord. They grabbed the bottle gourd and said, "Let us carry, my lord." The lord was embarrassed and stopped them, "No. Don't carry it." But the villagers insisted on carrying it. Then, the gourd was broken. The villagers saw poop inside it. At that time, Nangbya asked the lord, "Are you angry, my lord?" The lord angrily responded, "Of course! You make me embarrassed!" Then, the lord became the servant of Nangbya. Our elders used to tell this story to teach the children to be patient. Transcription (La Ring) Hkaw hkam wa hte hkaw hkam ma yan na lam hkai na re ya.
