Description: | Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Now, I am going to tell a story about a monkey and a gibbon. It's about a monkey and a gibbon. There were a monkey, a gibbon and a white-handed gibbon. Sorry, it's not about a monkey. It's about a gibbon and a white-handed gibbon. The gibbon and the white-handed gibbon lived in Mali Nmai forest. They talked each other, "Let's go to the other side of the river! In this Nhkai mountain, it's hard to find food now. So, let's live in Grawn mountain. Let's find food there. Now, Mali Hka (river) water level is decreasing. Let's make a bamboo raft and cross the river!" Then they started making a bamboo raft. But their bamboo raft was small. It was not big enough for both of their families. Then the gibbon family said to the white-handed gibbon family, "We'll cross the river first. And we will come and pick all of you again." "Ok," they answered. Then the gibbon family crossed the river first. They crossed the river from Nhkai Mountain to the other side. After some time, they landed at Grawn Mountain. The white-handed gibbons from the other side of the river shouted, "Bamboo raft! Bamboo raft!" The gibbons from other side told, "It's difficult. It's difficult!" Then the gibbons didn't paddle and go back to the white-handed gibbons. The white-handed gibbons shouted, "Bamboo raft! Bamboo raft! Bamboo raft!" But the gibbons kept saying, "It's difficult! It's difficult!" And they didn't go back to pick the white-handed gibbons up. That's why, there are white-handed gibbons in Nhkai Mountain. There aren't any white-handed gibbons in Grawn Mountain. So, the white-handed gibbons produce sound as "wawn, wawn, wawn" ( 'wawn' means bamboo raft ). It's because they are asking for bamboo rafts to come and pick them up. The gibbons make sound as 'yak, yak, yak' till now. ( 'yak' means difficult ) That's why, the white-handed gibbons and the gibbons produce sound as 'wawn, wawn, wawn' and 'yak, yak, yak' since the promise of coming to pick up was not kept.
