Description: | Translation (Seng Pan) I will talk about how Kachin people started Manau dance. Ocne, there was a very lazy man. He was not helpful not only at home but also at anywhere. Therefore, the villagers put him in a basket and hung it from a tree. Even though he was a lazy man, he was intelligent. He just didn't want to work hard. However, while he was kept in a basket which was hung from a tree, he was looking carefully at how the flocks of birds flew in different shapes and ate the fruits on the trees. On the other hand, he, La Dinyau, longed for someone to free him. While he was watching the flocks of birds, he had got an idea that if the people in his village would dance like how the birds flied in different shapes, it would be amazing. As he was kept in the basket, he couldn't get out from it by himself. At that time, a man who looked sick, was passing by. The man saw him and asked, "Man, why are you being hung there?" Since he was a good liar, he replied, "Hanging here made me relieve from sickness and stress. This is a peaceful place. That's why I am staying here." "I am stressed and my body is also painful. Please hang me there too!" the man requested. However, he said, "No. Only one person can be hung. Even me, as I repeatedly begged to stay here to the one who was hung here before me, I could stay here. I haven't recovered fully yet. I still need to be hung here." "No. Please let me stay! I feel so hurt," the man said. "Ok. I will give this place. It's only because you are eagerly praying for it. Untie me now! After that I will tie you well and hang here," he replied. After he was free, he hung the man there. And he went back to where his relatives were. And he led them dancing like the way the flocks of birds flew sinuously and made different shapes. So, till today Kachin people perform different curves and shapes in Manau dance which were learnt from birds.
