Description: | Translation (Seng Pan) The second fact is that Kachin people were animisms. According to what our ancestors who worshipped nats (the spirits) told about Kachin people is like this. The story is about a man called Shapawng wa and a woman named Ja Nang. The woman was a dragon. It was at the beginning of the world. It seems humans could communicate with animals at that time. The man, Shapawng wa, married with a dragon girl. In Burmese, we call "Na ga num". As they got married and lived together, the husband always got dragon smell from his wife. So, he looked for ways to make it less smelly. I don't know how Japanese and English call this. In Jinghpaw, we call it Kumba leaf. When he rubbed her with that leaf, her dragon smell was faded away. The smell changed into Jinghpaw smell. Since Kumba leaf could make the dragon smell fade away, Kachin people let the bride pass through Kumba leaf in the wedding. It was started from the man, Shapawng wa and the dragon woman, Ja Nang. Since the human got married with the dragon, Kumba leaf was used to make the smell disappear. So, while the shaman is worshipping nats, the bride has to pass through Kumba leaf. And the bad smell is disappeared. The belief has been practiced till today. The reason for wearing Silver dress which is decorated with silver disks is the sign of dragon shell. This is all for the second fact.
