Description: | Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Once upon a time, there was a humble, wealthy man in a village. Some villagers were poor. Some were so lazy that they didn't want to work at all. Some villagers were hardworking. They cut the trees, plough the farm or grow the grains. But they couldn't get much money. The wealthy man was kindhearted. The whole family was kind. They spent their lives in a simple way. So, the poor came to him and asked for help. Some poor people worked for them. The rich man helped the poor a lot. He gave them shelter, food and work. The rich man told the villagers, "Now, there are many young people and old people in this village. I feel really happy about that. But I have to move to another place. When I am not here, you try building your village to be a better place. I will donate some of my properties too. Divide it equally. We will meet one day again." Then, he and his family moved to another village. He lived in a new place for almost twenty years. One day, he really missed the old village where he used to live in. So, he decided to visit his village. Then, he wore old clothes and made his hair messy. He grew the moustache and beard too. And he went to the old village. He wondered how his village had grown. And he would like to know about his old friends. So, he went around the village. The villagers thought, "He might be a robber. If not, he is definitely a beggar." So, they caught him. They beat him up. He begged them, "Don't beat me. I am not a beggar or a thief. I am the rich man who used to live a long time ago." They got angry and said, "How come you lie to us? If you are that rich man, why did you come here and beg for money?" They beat him more. He was upset and thought, "Humans are scary. They only focus on their physical appearance. I thought they wouldn't beat me up if I told them that I was the rich man who helped them a lot. But they beat me more when I said that. They are narrow-minded. So, they never get wealthy." He got beaten and went back home. Since the villagers' mindset was not good, their village couldn't be grown. This is the end of the story.
