~ The origin of kava ~ A man loved his wife very much – and was devastated when she died of sickness. The widower became quite intrigued when he saw that a new plant began growing out of his wife's grave. This is how kava (Piper methysticum) became known to us: it was born out of a woman's body. This is in fact the reason why that plant, once turned into a drink, is forbidden to women, and drunk exclusively by men.
