Description:Vanga Vanatɨna, known as Sudest in the linguistic literature, is spoken on Vanatɨna/Vanatinai and Yeina Islands in the Louisiade Archipelago, Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea. According to the 2011 national census there are approximately 3,700 speakers of the language. Vanga Vanatɨna is a Western Oceanic language that belongs to the Nimoa-Sudest family of the Papuan Tip Cluster. There are four to five identified dialects of Vanga Vanatɨna that form a dialect continuum that runs the length of Vanatɨna from the northeast to the southeast tip. The current project primarily includes recordings of the central dialect from speakers living on the north coast between Njenja and Araetha villages.
