Wanglung Mossang noted this down as follows: “History of the origin of Mossang. The name Mungshang came because we stayed there in Mongolia (hence Mong). Shang means ‘royal clan’. From there we migrated to China. And there we lived for around 600 years. At the time our ancestors realised that they wanted to keep record of their history, but since there was no script, so thats why they invented these folk songs, so that the history of our clan will be preserved. The folksongs tells the history of Mossang. When living in China, Shanghai was our main settlement. Thats why the name Shanghai came from Mossang. From there we came across the river Chindwin. From there we came downward following the river Malih. And we crossed the Tanai river at Tanai Wakrap. From there we went to Singaling Khamti. There we stayed for only a few years and from there we migrated to Hongmalin. From there we came back to Chin (State). From there we went upstream along the Liknyu Hongnyu River. From there we climbed Meuklim – two mountains called Meuksa and Meukjung (small mountain and big mountain). While staying on those mountains, there was a great flood, which devestated the whole world. At that time animals and humans stayed together there, like in the Garden of Eden in the Christian story. When the flood subsided, the people climbed down and scattered everywhere in Burma. And still now few are left there, but the majority are in India. At that time there was no Burma and no India, it was simply Hewa Pum (or it could be called Hewa Mung ‘Hewa’s country’). After coming to India around 500 years have passed.” nst-mos_20121101_11_SM_T_Khaunglum_HistoricalSong_Duration 3’23”, Historical song. He sang about the things he told in the previous recording. nst-mos_20121101_10_SM_T_Khaunglum_History | |
