According to Tonwang, the tiger was very tired from carrying people across all day, and then an old man brought a leaf to sweep/brush the tiger’s skin. When other people saw this they gave them the name Maitai, where maiL means ‘to sweep clean’ and taiH refers to the tiger. | |
