He said that they went to the tree (forest) and then the rich man made a trap at the tree because he thinks that he is high caste, a high man. 7’06” The poor man is cursed so he makes a trap only on the ground. In the poor man’s trap a deer was caught. 7’26” In the rich man’s trap a hornbill (wudung) was caught. The rich man had hidden (without telling his friend). 7’46” He saw that in the poor man’s trap there was a deer and then in his trap in the tree, there was a hornbill and he came to feel greedy, so he changed it around. 8’09” And then he came back. In the morning he told to his friend, “come, let’s go and see our trap”. And then both of them saw that on the ground trap there was a hornbill and in the tree trap the deer was caught. 8’46” And the poor man was thinking that it might be done by the rich man. 8’58” And the poor man said to the rich man that its impossible for a deer to climb up and be caught in the tree trap, and also it is impossible for a hornbill to be caught in a ground trap, so that might be done by you! So give me back my deer and take the hornbill for yourself, he said! 9’18” And then the rich man refused to give that deer, saying “since we have seen what is caught in each of our own traps” So the poor man thought that he would go and inform to the elders, to judge it. 9’47” (kaungwa ‘lawyer, judge’) He went to the judge. 10’02” The judge said “I will judge this case after one week.” 10’19” After one week, before noon, the two of you should come to me. After one week they went to the judge, but the judge did not come, and so they were waiting up until evening. And there will be one judge and then another lawyer is from the side of the poor man and another on the side of the rich man, The lawyer on the side of the poor man did not come until evening, he came only when the villagers were about to go home. 11’06”. The judge said to the lawyer, I asked you to come in morning but you have come only in the evening, why? 11’14” (He replied) “The reason why I’m late is that I have seen a wonderful thing – a fish was climbing up to the tree! So I was looking at that, and so I’m late.” 11’27” And then the judge complained that it is impossible. We have never seen a fish climbing up a tree. So that lawyer replied that I also have never seen a deer climbing up a tree, its also impossible. 11’46” The judge accepted this, and thats the end of the story. 12’00” And then the judge solved the problem and the rich man had to give the deer to the poor man and the rich man had to take back the hornbill from the poor man. 12’18” That’s the end of it.
