Title:Eañ - Rice cultivation
0119-Eañ - Rice cultivation
A documentation of Kujireray and research into its nominal and verbal derivational morphology
Contributor:CD
Coverage:Senegal
Date:Unknown
Description:CD describes the annual cycle of rice cultivation. After the harvest, the rice fields are cleared and then burnt. After the rainy season the seedlings are taken from the nursery and transplanted in the field. As it becomes mature, farmers must stay in the fields to scare away birds. Harvesting may be done with a sickle or a knife. Afterwards the rice is tied into bunches for storage. When it comes to separating the husk from the grain, this can be done with the feet or with a machine. Although the machine is quicker, the results are superior with the traditional method.
