Description:		When a girl menstruated for the first time, she would be made to "sit down". She would be given traditional medicine, and some women would come and stay with her. When the bark of the tree used to make the medicine had grown back, the girl would be taken and washed. The people would prepare food from their gardens, game, firewood and water. The girl's hair would be cut. Her skin would be cut. Then she would be brought to the village where the feast had been prepared. Other people would bring betelnut and banana trees from the bush. They would blow the conch shell and sing and dance. The women would dance with the initiate. Then the women who had been staying with her would climb the betelnut and banana trees, and break off the leaves. Then the initiate would climb the trees, and afterwards the trees would be knocked down. The women would throw betelnuts and bananas at each other. Then they would dance with the initiate and make her look at all the houses in the village. Finally they would chew betelnut together, and then share out the food. They people would return home, and the initiate would be free to go wherever she wished.
