| Description: | There are two texts in this recording. The first is a folk parable about an evil woman. Three brothers all love her, and she says she'll marry the most macho of them. She asks the priest for advice, and the priest wants her too. She uses the brothers to kill the priest by leading him at night to a hole they have dug in the ground. She then rejects the brothers. She wants a tough man, so she ends up set up with a soldier, who eventually kills her. At 3:29 the second text begins. It is a historical narrative. In 1930 a Mixtec priest arrives in Zenzontepec. He ended up joining David Rodríguez and his band of soldiers. They became bandits, sacking Juquila and Panixtlahuaca and hiding out in the hills around Cinco Cerros. The federal army pursued them, and they hid in a cave. By black magic, David Rodríguez disappeared leaving nothing but his hat in his place, abandoning all of his followers, who were then all killed by the federal soldiers. Audio duration [00:08:29] | |
