Title:Speaking in reverse
0185-Speaking in reverse
Documentation of Zenzontepec Chatino language and culture
Contributor:TCR
Coverage:Mexico
Date:2011-03-24
Description:TCR explains how he and some others used to speak in reverse as a way of joking around and having a secret code. In disyllabic words, the order of the first and second syllables is switched. He gives several examples, but explains that it has been so long since he has done it that it doesn't come out very easily. He does some repetition until he gets each phrase more or less the way they used to say it. He says that a man named Andrés Cavero Bautista was the main initiator of this word play. It is not done regularly anymore, as far as TCR knows. Audio duration [00:04:13]
