Description: | TCR speaks about La Llorona (the weeping woman). The legend of La Llorona is a pan-Hispanoamerican legend about a woman with a lost soul often heard screaming in the woods. According to Tranquilino, it is a mestizo legend and not a Chatino folk belief. He says that she cries because of her sins and her suffering as a lost soul. Sometimes they call it a chaneque (evil spirit that dwells in a natural place), and they also call the god/spirit of nature. In most cases the legend says that the woman killed her children and was denied access to heaven, but TCR mentions nothing of this. Audio duration [00:02:59] | |
