Description: | Mathias Mahunu and Rebecca Defina visited Grete Ebedi at her house in the afternoon and interviewed her about various topics. Her granddaughter was nearby behind the camera preparing fufu and she occasionally commented on what was being said. During the interview her husband came and sat next to her. This is the first section of the interview and has been cut from the larger recording. In this section Grete talks about her family and how Vane has changed. The time in space experiment can be found in the full recording and her giving directions can be found in interview_MM-GE_cut_dir-Gayie. Mathias asks Grete to talk about her children and grandchildren and when they were born. He also asks her about how Vane has changed and how she thinks it will change in the future. We also attempted to do the MPI for psycholinguistic's time in space experiment which aims to investigate the how people map time onto space, for instance is the past behind, to the left or east of the speaker. The experiment consists of two parts. In the first part people are given sets of 4 cards showing a temporal sequence and asked to arrange them. In the second part the experimenter points to a place directly in front of them and fairly close by and tells them that this is the middle part of whatever sequence for instance midday or Wednesday in the sequence Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. The experimenter then asks them to point to the preceding and following times such as sunrise and sunset. Then Mathias asks Grete to tell the way to get to the top of Mt Gemi which is directly in front of the participants, behind the camera. Both Mathias's question and Grete's responses are given in Avatime. Rebecca and Mathias occasionally speak in English. Mathias questions Grete. Grete responds. | |
