He also dicusses the establishment of Zapallo Grande, which approximately 50 years ago was unsettled and considered dangerous because it was located on a major path of the devil. He describes various encounters with 'pillujumu' a spirit that lives in the river and 'fayu ujmu' a malignant being that screams in the jungle. He also discusses Puerto Viejo or 'Tutsa' where the Chachi lived before migrating to Esmeraldas.
