Date: | 2013-01-22 | |
Description: | Valentina interviews Kamak about his life and relations. Some discussion of reindeer herding and terminology that she did not know. New vocabulary! His wife Shura leaves near beginning of recording, says goodbye in Russian. Kamak is of that generation where his surname is his Koryak name. Ambient audio for video, started some minutes before and stopped after video.
He worked a long time in the Palana sovkhoz and then tried to make a go as a 'farmer' with a private herd in the 1990s. It didn't work, as the herders didn't look after deer and the herd withered away to nearly nothing. It was gone by 2001.
Works in Institute for Advanced Teacher Training, Palana. She was born in a yaranga on the tundra.
