Description:This is an older recording from February 2010, in which LPJ recites some traditional sayings about the different ethnic groups along the upper Min river. The sayings revolve around a three way distinction between the people of Yonghe valley and those to the north and to the south. In Chinese, LPJ equates the three ethnonyms in the local language with Chinese equivulants. The Chinese terms used are 'Tibetan', 'Han Chinese', and 'Qiang'. The saying is the following. 1a. Chinese make alcohol using rice. 1b. Tibetans brew alcohol from buckwheat 1c. Qiang brew alcohol from highland barley 2a. Alcohol from rice does not count as alcohol. 2b. Alcohol from buckwheat does not count as alcohol. 2c. Alcohol from highland barley counts as alcohol. The length of this recording is [00:02:26].
