Description: | This project is a part of PhD dissertation fieldwork, supported by the Endangered Languages Documentation Programme (IGS00166). The dissertation itself will focus on evidentiality in the language, but the documentation aims to encompass as broad a set of linguistic and cultural practices as possible. Most interviews were carried out by native Kichwa researchers, and are therefore monolingual in Kichwa. The topics addressed cover the recent history of the Amazonian Kichwa, folktales, everyday life and ceremonies.
This elicitation contains four more pear stories. They were recorded prior to an interview about animal traps that we've argeed on beforehand with Yolanda, Klever and Rambo. Nilo and Rambo were waiting to be paid by the oil company, so I decided to go ahead with the stories. At the beginning, I wasn't very successfull in putting across what it is that I want Klever and Yolanda to do, some kid who was around helped me explain, but it seemed like they still thought it was slightly odd that I should ask them to do such a thing. File _01 is Klever re-telling the story as he watches it for the first time. In _02 he is telling it after having watched, supposedly to Yolanda, but she is not paying much attention, so he talks partly to me and partly to Nilo, who had just arrived as we were recording. in _03 Yolanda is watching an re-telling the story (having sort of previously heard it from Klever, but as I said, she was not paying attention, and did not watch it when he was watching it either). In _04 Yolanda is re-telling it to Nilo. Both the off-line re-tellings were rather quick, I thought. Still to early to say anything, but both Klever and Yolanda seemed not to have used any discourse markers when telling the story, either on- or off-line - which is the same Lidia did in el_21092014. Recording equipment: CanonXA10 camera and Sennheisser ew100 wireless. In files _02, _03 and _4 the L channel was duplicated to stereo.
