| Description: | In this video recording, the speaker Mark Mesapo is describing the methods to catch honey-eater birds (Myzomela cardinalis). Traditionally, the honey-eater was caught to provide the red colour for red-feather money. The red-feather money, which is rarely produced in Santa Cruz (and in the Nea area), was at the base of the trading system. Red-feather valuables, referred to as töwa in the language, are coils that resemble long belts, each of them containing around fifty thousand feathers. | |
