In this session, we are in Dora's kitchen in the afternoon watching popular magazines. We describe and comment on the people that appear in them. Although we were actually able to register the type of phrases that we sought to elicit (usually, physical description) it is one of the most spontaneous and funny sessions of the collection. The idea of this session was once again to do it together with the people of the community, especially with the younger ones. This was impossible, for several reasons. In any case, the physical description of people who are present, although it is a usual practice in language workshops, may not be a good idea. Commenting on those magazine photos gives the whole session a very informal tone, which often becomes obscene. Good humor generates spontaneous uses of the language that would have been impossible to obtain in other circumstances. The video was recorded on July 30 after dinner. This is also a good example to show how language use varies according to the occasions and even the time of the day. | |
