Description: | Unique to Shakti. The origins of the Ngabro are said to lie in a story about how the Lopon Rinpoche / Guru Padmasambhava was invited by Songtsen Gonpo, the King of Tibet, to intercede so that the Samyang Gonpa in Lhasa could be build free or disruptions by demons. The Lopon Rinpoche, it is said, vanquished the demons and then threw into the gonpa's lake three objects: a drum, a monkey mask and a prayer book (/book of incantations). An eight-year-old boy, Pon Bali, picked these up many years (/generations) later and found in himself, miraculously, the ability to read the incantations and to play the drum, which he did, wearing the monkey mask. The song lyrics say: Children, choose for us a place. Pig: go choose a rock. Sheep: go pick up the stone. | |
