Description:This session was recorded in Gorkha district of western Nepal. Panmati a native speaker of Baram language has told this a short description of Baramule worship.
This project aims to document Baram, a seriously endangered language of Nepal, for its preservation and promotion. For this purpose, we will develop a corpus of the various texts of the Baram language and thereby prepare resources such as its sketch grammar, lexicon and ethnographic profile. To revitalize the language, we will develop Baram orthography and prepare a Baram primer to facilitate its use in basic education and literacy programmes. The audio-video recordings of the Baram database will be archived with its annotation in a website for its accessibility to linguists, ethnographers and the Baram speech community.
All people go to the bank of Iswori river in this festival. The people bring the flower palanquin there. Like a swing in the bamboo's poles of the ropes the flowers are stitched. They entertain a lot there and apply the Tika to children. Specially they apply the Tika to five vergin girls called Panchakannya. The God's temple is quite big one there.
Mrs. Panmati Baram is a fluent speaker of Baram language. We started to work with her quite later and have taken several texts from her. She is a good story teller and her texts are generally interesting, systematically organised. She doesn't have front lower teeth and she speaks quite faster so her texts are relatively difficult to understand.
Mr. Krishna Paudel is a Research Assistant (RA) in this project. He has been actively participate in the field work, computing and other activeities.
Mr. Krishna Prasad Chalise is affiliated to The Central Department of Linguistics, Tribhuvan University. In this project he has been working as a researcher. He has been responsible of coordination of different aspects of the project including some aspects of management, computing, annotation, panning etc.
