Description:Khunshaow, also known as Khun Nawt, is a spirit that is viewed differently by different people. Some view this spirit as an evil spirit that possesses an individual when he is sick. Others believe that the spirt is present when someone is sick, but actually plays a role in helping that person expel the evil spirit and recover from his illness Khunshaow, also known as Khun Nawt, is the spirit that possesses an individual who is sick. When one is possessed by the Khun spirit the invalid must offer a buffalo sacrifice to the Khun spirit. In former days a wild mountain mithun had be sacrificed, but because of a scarcity of these wild oxen today, cows are sacrificed. One shaman is required for this performance which begins with chanting in the morning. During the day, the oxen is killed and the offering is made. Later that evening, oxen meat, both raw and cooked, is shared and distributed among the households in the village.
